Magic Soup
My simple but elegant recipe, as requested by
LostInSpaceGroup one: the stock
12 cups water
2 hambones
2 tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons salt
3 cloves of garlic broken in half
Group two: the retarded
3 medium/large potatoes, peeled and chopped into thin discs
3 medium/large carrots, peeled and chopped
3 medium onions, chopped into rings
4 or 5 celery stalks, chopped
Boil group one for three hours. Strain the stock. Separate meat from bone. Discard bone and gristle. Chop ham and add it to the stock. Add the retarded. Simmer for one hour. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Optional: Extra ham from the roast. (add for last hour of boil) I sprinkle black pepper on the served portions before consuming them.
This soup is very sticky and very delicious. I am proud of it.

Excellent. I couldn't stop smiling when I read your post. I will definitely be exploring this recipe. PS- Would you like a copy of my demo? The latest one has 9 tracks (yes, it is my voice and me on acoustic guitar). If you have an address of a friend where I could send it to, just email it to me (apark-03@sandiego.edu), and I'll get it out to you. I like to honor people's privacy, so you know. But I would love to hear what you think. :)

Your recipe sounds awesome. I will have to give it a try....
All this talk about soup is making me think about this Thai beef noodle soup I make on occasion (it is always a lot so I kind of have to have an occasion). Now I am really wanting some even though it is supposed to be in the 80s today and usually soup is my cold weather food...I guess I ate it in Thailand when it was hot and humid, I can do it here...

Easiest/best soup ever:
Ingredients - anything left over from dinner. Any vegetables, diced steak, barbecued chicken breast, some types of pasta, anything goes, use your better judgement. (you wouldn't want to use mashed potatoes, for instance, but fried potatoes work great)
At the end of dinner, take the qualifying leftovers and put them into a HUGE tupperware bowl. Seal it and put it in the freezer. Tomorrow night, toss in new leftovers on top of frozen ones from last night. Keep doing this until the bowl is full.
When you're ready to eat, thaw the bowl of magic, put it in a big pot and add chicken or beef stock. You might choose to make it a pasta based soup, so add your favorite pasta. You might want to make it potato based, so add cucumbers. Kidding, add potatoes. Cook it most of the day and season to taste.
It sounds gross, but trust me. It's the most amazing soup I've ever tasted, and every batch is different. Tawnya calls it Soup Bucket Soup.
I know, not very creative.
